Emergency dental care isn’t needed… until it is
Finding a hospital emergency room with a dentist on call is rare, which makes it important to have a dentist who offers emergency dental care. Thankfully, RLJ Dental is here to help, with emergency time built into our dentists’ day at every location.
The most common reasons to have an emergency visit to the dentist is for a tooth that has been knocked out or broken. The first step to proper emergency dental care is to inform your dentist of the problem. This can be done with a simple phone call; RLJ Dental patients can call our clinic numbers outside of business hours to report a problem.
Some situations are more minor than others and a visit to the dentist can wait until regular office hours. If there is pain or swelling, an emergency dental care visit would be in order.
Do you need emergency dental care
In the case of a smaller chip that does not reach the pulp, there may be increased sensitivity. Although with a deeper chip, pain may be more prominent. Depending on the severity, a chipped tooth may be able to wait until the next business day.
If a tooth is more severely broken, it is important to rinse your mouth with warm water and apply ice to reduce swelling. If the injury has caused your lip or tongue to bleed, gently clean the area as well. Then call your RLJ dentist.
If you question whether you need dental care right away, call us to discuss your symptoms. We are happy to walk you through the process. If an injury cannot be prevented, know that RLJ Dental will be there for your emergency dental care.
